ARM Powered LEGO/Nokia 4×4x4 Rubik’s Cube Solver

Connor, February 4th, 2010

This is completely pointless, therefor I completely love it.

“Possibly the first ever 4×4x4 LEGO Rubik’s Cube solver?” touts the YouTube post. I’m bettin’ you would be fairly safe in removing the word ‘possibly’ without too much fear of a tidal wave of litigation. I’m also thinking you could swap ‘first ever’ with ‘first, and very probably last ever’ and still be able to sleep at night.

Still.. all good fun.

Pringle of Scotland Animation by David Shrigley

Connor, February 2nd, 2010

Hugh Mailr, Ogilvy & Mather Group

This is a lovely piece of animation, I’m biased of course.

Pringle of Scotland has commissioned artist David Shrigley to create a humorous short animated film about life behind-the-scenes at Pringle to celebrate the brands return to Milan Fashion Week.

The animation, showcased during Pringle of Scotland’s menswear show in Milan on 18th January, depicts the making of jumpers and cardigans over the past 195 year history of the Scottish brand.

Book Worms

Connor, December 1st, 2009

Bea Kelleher, OgilvyOne

A very non-traditional way (viral) of selling a VERY traditional product
(books) it seems to be effective with over half a million hits in less than
2 weeks on YouTube.

Like a good book, it takes a bit of patience at the beginning, but picks up
by the end. Very beautiful, intricate and arresting creatively. Brave
creative, brave planning, brave client.

Outdoor Meets Activation. Love it.

Connor, November 27th, 2009

Bea Kelleher, OgilvyOne

It is easier to be fresh in digital because the bar is still being set, or
inventive in TV advertising because the budgets are much larger, or
impressive in multi-channel, interdisciplinary, big budget campaigns
because, well, you can be so thorough with the Big Ideal articulations. So
when I see imaginative, effective and unaffected in more traditional media
- like outdoor – which delivers a brand or product truth, I get very
enthusiastic about it and want everyone to see and love it too.

Ikea in Frankfurt – activation

Like all good activation, it dramatises the benefit to the consumer: in this case, big storage solutions for small city-living apartments. Like all good outdoor, choice of location was also key to the effectiveness of the activity – this idea outside the centre of town would still have been visually impactful, but would have been largely unseen by anyone other than the locals or the industry.

Ikea: Bigger Storage Ideas

The Challenge

Germany’s flats and apartments are full of them: messy corners. That’s why home furnishing store Ikea offers boxes and drawers in all shapes and sizes to meet each and every storage need. Aiming specifically at the large number of Frankfurt citizens living in small apartments, the local Ikea store asked us to promote their storage solutions with a real big outdoor idea.

The Solution

In one of Frankfurt’s busiest streets we disguised the balconies of an entire apartment building as giant versions of Ikea’s drawers and baskets. The awareness created on the street paved the way for the Ikea promotions team to distribute brochures and response postcards.

The Results

Everyday, over 12,000 pedestrians, cyclists and drivers passed the apartment block every day. This accumulated to an impressive 168,000 contacts over the 2 weeks of the campaign. Local newspapers and ad press covered the promotion. Traffic and sales in the 2 Ikea Frankfurt outlets rose substantially.

Dublin Zoo Announces Names For Their Critically Endangered Sumatran Tiger Cubs

Connor, October 15th, 2009
Dublin Zoo Sumatran Tiger Cubs Named 3.jpg

Two Sumatran Tiger cubs born at, Dublin Zoo in May took centre stage again today after a nationwide competition found names for them. Keepers sifted through hundreds of entries before selecting “Emas”, meaning “Gold” in Indonesian for the male cub and “Wanita” meaning “Woman” for the female.

A critically endangered species, fewer than 400 Sumatran tigers survive in the wild so these animals are extremely important not just to the Zoo but to the global breeding programme.

The cubs were born on 29th May and are thriving. At birth Emas weighed in at 1 kg and Wanita at .85 kg, and now almost 5 months on the pair are
thriving weighing in at 22kgs and 17kilos respectively. Both cubs are still suckling from their mother but are also being introduced to solids
including chicken, pork and rabbit.

The cubs formed a strong bond with both their father, Kepala, and mother, Sigra. Whilst, traditionally male Sumatran Tigers are solitary creatures, Kepala has taken an active role in the cub’s upbringing and unusually the family enjoy sleeping together at night time alongside each other.

Dublin Zoo plays a significant role in the international breeding programme which is designed to ensure the survival of tigers in their natural habitat. As well as contributing to this breeding programme visitors to Dublin Zoo have the opportunity to support these critically endangered species by purchasing a Tiger adoption pack at Dublin Zoo gift shop.

The newly named pair, Emas and Wanita, can be seen at Dublin Zoo alongside ztheir parents.
